Main Model 9385

Model 9385 table top shear

Comparison of the two shears

They both do a great job of cutting. We have used both and you can't go wrong with either one. Here is the major difference between the two.

9385 - Because the shear cuts metal with a guillotine action, it leaves no burrs if you need to trim a small sliver of metal off a plate. Trimming can certainly be done with the 9380, but it is more difficult to not leave burrs (but they can be easily filed off).

9380 - Because metal is fed to the blades from left to right, the guide ruler is at the top of the shear. This makes it much easier and faster to line up cutting marks you put on the metal, with the ruler marks. The 9385 ruler is on the side and you have to lean over each time, to make sure of alignment.

We personally use the 9380 to cut plates for our samples. We want the superior speed and are willing to deal with filing off an occasional burr if we have to trim a plate. As we said, both are great cutters, so it is really whatever floats your boat.
